Top 17 of 2017

I absolutely love reading and watching everyone else's yearly favourites so there was no way I wasn't going to do my own. I didn't apply any strict criteria to choosing these products - I just went through my collection and pulled out the things I enjoyed most consistently during the year.

Skinstitut Moisture Defense Ultra Dry $30.15
Skinstitut Moisture Defense Ultra Dry review
2017 was really the year I fell in love with Skinsitut! This is the first product I ever tried from their range and it is still my favourite after going through at least 5 tubes. In January, I went to Europe in the dead of winter and this saved my skin! The last time I went to Europe in winter I had so many skin problems and my skin got so dry it peeled and flaked. This time though, my usually exceptionally dry skin was perfectly moisturised. I've also been able to use drier, long lasting foundations that would be off limits to anyone with dry skin because this moisturiser is that good! I really love a lot of Skinstitut products and you can find an itemised run down of my dry skin routine here.

Origins Drink-Up Intensive Mask $37

Origins Drink-Up Intensive Mask review
This is hands down the best mask for dry skin I have ever used! I've pretty much given up trying new ones too because I am happy to stick by this one for life. I use it whenever my skin is feeling a little parched or even on lazy nights because it means I can skip all my serums and moisturisers by just popping this one on and going to bed. It leaves my skin so beautifully soft and hydrated! Seriously, if you have dry skin, you need to try it.

L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara $24.95
L'Oreal Lash Paradise Mascara review Australia
I simply could not wait for L'Oreal Australia to finally release this new cult favourite mascara so I ordered on eBay and let me tell you, the hype is real! It is a drier formula that builds so much separation and volume. Basically its my ideal formula! Unfortunately I used up my first tube so I was impatiently waiting for it to be released so I could buy another. It is rolling out to Priceline stores right now so it should be popping up near you, if it hasn't already.

It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream $61
It Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream review
I have fortunately been able to try a lot of new foundations this year and find some I really liked. As much as I love foundations like the Giorgio Amarni Power Fabric, it is a more special occasion foundation because it makes me look a bit more done and I wanted to focus on the everyday. This is absolutely perfect for everyday coverage, especially for dry skin. It gives a good medium coverage and looks lovely all day, letting my skin naturally peak through but perfecting it just that little bit. It is also super quick and easy to apply and blend which makes it a regular pick for lazy mornings.

Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation $29
Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation review
I actually probably reach for this foundation even more than the It Cosmetics one for everyday foundation because it is so amazing and yet so affordable. I do my best to make my nice high end foundations last and I really don't need anything fancy for work. It is my workhorse foundation and I love it! It applies well to my dry skin and gives me great semi-dewy medium coverage that looks very natural. It is easily as good as many much more expensive foundations, if not better!

Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer $18.95
Maybelline Age Rewind Eraser Dark Circles Concealer
For the longest time, I thought the lightest shade was "light" which was far too dark and yellow for me so I discarded it and never looked much at trying it again. Ever since I discovered that there was also a "fair" shade, I have been using it everyday. I would say it is medium to high coverage and really brightens up my eye area. It also sits very well and blends into my dry skin.

Bobbi Brown Corrector $44
Bobbi Brown Corrector review
This is one product I simply will never be without. I am blessed with hereditary dark under eye circles that will never go away no matter how well rested or hydrated I am. This corrector is a quite thick absolute full cover cream that stays put all day! I can actually usually skip concealer on top and just use foundation. The difference it makes to my whole face by just correcting my dark circles is incredible. It looks like I've had an extra 5 hours of sleep!

Benefit Hoola Quickie Contour Stick $49
Benefit Hoola Quickie Contour Stick review
Because I have such pale skin, a powder contour or bronzer can quickly push me over the top to looking overdone for everyday so I decided to try more cream bronzing. I am so glad I did because this stick is so easy to apply and blend, has the perfect shade that is bronze but cool enough to not stray into oompa loompa. Because it is a cream, it melds perfectly into my foundation and looks much more natural.

RCMA No Colour Powder $27
RCMA No Colour Powder review
As someone who generally hates powder, I really just want something to set my concealer in place but not overly mattify the dewy finish of my makeup. That is where this RCMA powder comes in. I love it for its simplicity because it really is just a super fine powder that sets your makeup, but doesn't add extra texture, dryness or noticeable powdery look to your skin. I guess it is a powder that does nothing except set your makeup and that is why I love it so much.

Bobbi Brown Powder Blush in Nectar $47
Bobbi Brown Powder Blush in Nectar review
This is definitely my favourite blush in my collection and I use it pretty much everyday. I love it because it is a beautiful warm pink matte blush that is just perfect for my daily understated makeup. It is the exact right shade for my skin tone and looks amazing with basically any look. I still love my Chanel and Charlotte Tilbury blushes but this one is definitely the one I reach for most.

Tarte Tartlette In Bloom Amazonian Clay Palette $69
Tarte Tartlette In Bloom Amazonian Clay Palette review
When I went to choose the palette I used and love most this year, this was a pretty easy pick. The matte shades are just so intense an blendable. I particularly love the really dark brown shade for creating drama at my lash line and making me look like I have way more lashes than I do. The metallics are really intense too but it is a bit of a weird formula. I find they apply best with a finger directly on the lid. If you need a neutrals palette that will see you through everyday looks, as well as intense drama, this is an amazing pick.

Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Lipstick in Mademoiselle $53
Chanel Rouge Coco Hydrating Lipstick in Mademoiselle review
I picked this one up on my way home in Paris so it will always be a bit special. Aside from the sentimental value, this is a beautiful nude shade that has a darker, mauve-plum undertone that makes it quite unique. The best part is the formula though it that is sheer but still packs a lot of colour, so it melds seamlessly into the lips and looks like a very natural tint. You know how some cream formulas quite clearly just sit on top of the lips and move around - this ones blends perfectly. It's hard to explain but the closest approximation would be a MAC Lustre lipstick.

MAC Amplified Lipstick in Blankety $36
MAC Amplified Lipstick in Blankety review
This is hands down my favouite nude lipstick of the year and I wore it a ton. Finding the right nude for my pale skin can be really tricky but this one has just enough pink and white in it to be just right. The amplified formula is really nice too with creamy full coverage that is very comfortable. It isn't the longest lasting lipstick but it is very nice to wear. If you have pale skin, you need to try it!

Designer Makeup Tools 118W-24 Silk Soft Tapered Blush Brush $22.60
This is such an exceptionally soft and high quality brush for such a low price. I have purchased quite a few DMT brushes at the Brisbane Hair and Beauty Expos and they have always impressed me. I particularly like these white goat blend bristles because they are soft, blend perfectly and just feel so much more expensive than they are. I definitely plan on buying a few more at the expo this year.

Rae Morris #7 Deluxe Point Shader $80
Rae Morris #7 Deluxe Point Shader review
This brush was no where near this expensive when I bought it. I actually purchased the old edition when it was on clearance. That said, if you are looking to invest in a eye blending brush that is miles above the Zoeva or Sigma, this one is incredible. I love using this as an all over blender to just meld all the shades through my crease and outer corner together. It is quite large, but it has the perfect taper and the bristles are so soft and luxurious.

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum $234
Chanel Coco Mademoiselle Eau de Parfum review
This is one hella expensive perfume but I really do love it. I actually purchased this in Paris duty free so it was a little bit more affordable. I live for floral fragrances and this one is really beautiful and sophisticated. I think that what they say about Chanel fragrances is totally true - they last forever! I have used this one quite regularly all year and I have only gone through about 30mL so I would say that it is worth the splurge.

Essie Gel Couture Polishes $16.95 each
Essie Gel Couture Polishes review
I saved the best for last. I really do think this is my favourite discovery of the year. As you know if you have been following my blog and Instagram, I love painting my nails and I almost always have perfectly polished nails. This is truly the only formula I have found that consistently lasts longer than a day or two. It is always so glossy and perfect and it is hands down the best formula I've found and I think I have tried most of them. I have almost collected all the shades available in Australia so I might have to start ordering online!

There you have my absolute favourites of 2017. I would love to know if any of my favourites made your list. Also, make sure you let me know which products you loved most this year and maybe they will make my list next year.

    1. OMG I know! I go through it fairly fast too. I manage to get it for $27 instead of $44 at the Estee Lauder corporate store though so that is a plus.
