The L'Oreal Colour Riche Matte Addiction Lipsticks ($21.95) are a very recent addition to the Australian range and they are attracting a lot of positive attention. It's actually really easy to see why. They are a really nice formula and come in some seriously punchy and vivid shades. If you are looking for some new intense lip colours, you may want to read on.

So these lipsticks claim to be matte with an intense colour payoff and I think that is definitely accurate. I think the finish is a more on the satin side of matte so they aren't intensely matte, which I actually prefer. They have a soft gel base with oils so they are a little more forgiving compared to other matte lipsticks so far as moisture goes. I would definitely say they are less drying but don't get me wrong, they are still drying. That comes with the matte territory. They do feel lightweight and definitely more comfortable compared to liquid matte lipsticks that totally dry down, but it is still a matte.

The application of these are what really impressed me! I'm sure you know what I mean, but I often find matte lipsticks try, stiff and hard to apply smoothly. MAC Ruby Woo comes to mind. It is a gorgeous shade but it can be tough to apply. These are so different. I think it is the gel and oil base, but they apply a lot smoother and aren't as stiff, which means they don't skip and go on with a smooth line. I hope that makes sense, but basically they are so much easier to apply than most of my other matte lipsticks.

The longevity is actually pretty great too. They aren't going to last as well as a dry down matte liquid lip, but they come decently close and wear down a lot nicer too because it isn't a formula that sets and subsequently flakes off. I found that the shades lasted a good few hours but did need touching up after eating and drinking. That said, the dark shades maintain the perimeter really well when eating so they are quick and easy to touch up.

Okay, and lets quickly talk about the shade range. In Australia, it is available in 15 shades and there are lot of intense shades like reds, berries and darker brown nudes. Here are the shades, and they are listed in the order the lipstick stock images are displayed left to right.

  • 103 Blush In A Rush
  • 104 Strike A Pose
  • 227 Hype
  • 241 Pink-A-Porter

I had already purchased Blush in a Rush and was also sent another two shades in a PR gift package from L'Oreal, which means I have three shades to try and and lip swatch for you.

103 Blush In A Rush

This is such a pretty shade! It is a very flattering warm pink nude that has a bit of peachy tone to it. There has been a lot of hype around this nude at it is easy to see why. I actually included it in a post about my favourite L'Oreal nude lip combo. The only thing I would say is that it can weirdly separate a bit on the lips, especially if you have any trace of lip balm on the lips. Just make sure you wipe your lips clean before applying. It is odd because they darker shades don't have this issue at all.

346 Scarlet Silhouette

Oh my god, this red! I absolutely love this shade and I have gotten compliments every time I've worn it. It is a beautiful true neutral red. It isn't too cool, it isn't too warm. It is perfectly in the middle. I really love my MAC Ruby Woo lipstick as my go to red but it is quite blue toned and this gives me a great true red alternative. I really to love it and I have actually found myself wearing it more than I thought because the gel formula makes it easier to apply compared to MAC Ruby Woo. It seriously is my new go to red.

Honestly this isn't a shade I would wear that often, but it definitely is beautiful and applies very evenly and opaque. I usually prefer a bold red or a deeper and warmer wine shade but this great formula hopefully means that I can give berry/plum shades more of a chance.

As you can probably tell, I really like this new Matte Addiction formula. I actually have always been a bit of a fan of L'Oreal lipsticks and these are no exception. Looking at the other shades and knowing how good the formula is, I am definitely keen to pick up Paris Cherry and Mahogany Studs which look absolutely beautiful! I have already got a lot of wear out of Blush In A Rush and Scarlet Silhouette particularly and predict I will wear them tons more in the future.

Let me know if you have already tried the Matte Addiction lipsticks and if there is a shade I absolutely need to pick up. I would also love to know if this review has made you want to pick up one of the shades I reviewed so leave a comment down below.

Disclaimer: I had already purchased Blush In A Rush before I was sent a repeat and the two other shades. They were provided to me as PR gifts without any obligation to review them or say nice things. As always, my opinions are my own.
