Covergirl Melting Pout Gel Liquid Lipstick 100 Gelebrity 105 Gel-ful 110 Even-gel-ical 125 Gell Yes 130 Don't Be Gelly review swatch swatches
Despite the dominant trend of matte lipsticks, I always prefer a glossy lip! Especially when it comes to everyday makeup, glossy lips tend to look less heavy and fussy. Covergirl recently released their new Melting Pout Gel Liquid Lipstick ($14.95) and I was lucky enough to be sent all five shades to test out for you.
So the value of these are pretty great. They cost $14.95 each and you can always get them on sale. At the time of posting this review, they were on 25% off at Priceline. The packaging is actually really stellar as well, with a simple squeeze tube and doe foot applicator attached to the end. The product is easily squeezed up through the small holes in the applicator for easy, neat application. I also really like the look of the packaging too, and it really does look cute.

The Melting Pout lipsticks come in 5 different shades:
  • 100 Gelebrity: true medium-brown
  • 105 Gel-ful: peachy nude
  • 110 Evan-gel-ical: light cool pink
  • 125 Gell Yes: cool toned red
  • 130 Don't Be Gelly: bright grape
I think this a really good, well rounded shade collection of only five shades. The application of these is actually pretty good for the most part. I definitely found that the lighter nude shades applied more smoothly. Of course, I had to layer up the darker shades a little more but I certainly wouldn't call them at all patchy, and you can see that I was able to get a smooth application in the lip swatches. I think it is pretty normal for more pigmented shades to require more layering, particularly in a gloss formula.

Speaking of formula, it is basically more of an opaque lip gloss. The gel name is definitely apt and it is quite comfortable. It isn't too sticky and basically feels like a thicker gloss. Because it is such a glossy formula, you can't really expect much longevity. These lipsticks wont really last through drinking or a meal but they are very easy to touch up and layer. Especially when it comes to the nude shades, they are as easy to reapply as a lip balm. I definitely don't take the short wear time as a negative though, because if you want a gloss formula, it comes with the territory.

All in all, I really like these. My favourite shades are definitely Gel-Ful and Evan-gel-ical becuase I find that nude shades tend to work better in these kinds of formulas. The darker shades have the capacity to move around more with a gloss formula, which can get a bit messy. That said though, these were still pretty good but of course a stay put matte will always fare batter.

I hope you enjoyed this review and it helped you decide if these new gel liquid lipsticks are right for you. Basically, if you like glossly lips with a little more pigment than a normal gloss, I think you will really like them. If you are a slave to your matte, long-wear favourite formulas then these probably aren't for you. Let me know in the comments below what your favourite shade is and if you might pick one of these new Covergirl Melting Pout lippies up.

  1. These look really similar to the Too Faced Melted lips! Typically when it comes to opaque lips, I'm more of a matte/satin gal, but I do love the look of those nude shades!
