Designer Brands Luminous Hydrating Foundation 801 Porcelain Ivory review
I had heard so much buzz about this foundation and I was so happy to finally get my paws on it to try out. This still fairly new Designer Brands Luminous Hydrating Foundation ($19.99) claims to be "perfect for creating a naturally radiant and dewy complexion." I have to say I agree!

This formula is enriched with hyaluronic acid, aloe vera, green tea and vitamin A, C & E, which are all fantastic ingredients for dry skin. It is also free of talcs, bismuth and parabens, which is awesome. If that wasn't enough, it is also certified cruelty free and vegan certified! I think it is amazing when inexpensive brands are so sustainable and conscious - there is really no excuse for more luxury expensive brands! I definitely found this to be quite moisturising and the hydrating ingredients make it apply and blend really smoothly and easily over my dry skin, even without a primer. It is an ever so slightly heavier formula on the skin compared to others, but not exceptionally so and it isn't at all cakey. It still feels very comfortable and is perfect for everyday. There is also a slightly mousse-y and gel like texture to it and I think that is what helps it spread and blend so evenly.

I would definitely agree with its claims about glowing coverage. The claims say that it is a buildable medium-full coverage. Again, I would agree but I think I would categorise it as a medium+ coverage. I don't think you could build it up to a truly full coverage without it looking a bit heavy, which is fine by me. I always prefer a glowy, medium coverage foundation anyway. The dewy finish also comes from a truly glowy slightly "wet" look and there is no hint of oiliness or cheap and tacky glitter within the foundation.

Completed freshly applied makeup. Check out that glow!

Close up of finish. I am wearing highlighter on my cheekbones.
The longevity was also amazing and when I took it off at the end of the day it was still definitely there and giving me a great glow and coverage. I also found that it didn't go from dewy to oily over the day and stayed looking amazing. Of course, I have dry skin so I can't really comment on whether it would get oily on a more oily or combo skin types.

3 hours of wear.

11 hours of wear - still going strong! My complexion still looks beautifully even.
I think the one downside is the fact that it only comes in 6 shades, which basically only cover light to medium skin tones. I used 801 Porcelain Ivory and it was a decent match but it is a little too pink for me. I am definitely going to pick up the shade slightly more yellow and maybe a touch darker for when I am more fake tanned. Light Sand looks like a good yellow shade that might make a good mixer to get my perfect shade match along with Porcelain Ivory.

If you want to get your paw on this foundation too, Designer Brands's main stockist seems to be Terry White Chemist but is available from a lot of other chemists. You can use their stockist search tool to find the one nearest to you. Of course, the easiest way to get your hands on Designer Brands is just to order from Adore Beauty - my favourite online shopping site! They do free shipping on every order with no mimimum purchase, offer AfterPay and give you free samples and a Tim Tam with every order. What more could you ask for?

Basically, I really love this foundation and think it is absolutely exceptional, especially for the price! It is not just a great affordable foundation; it is a great foundation, period! It has the feel, finish and quality of a much more expensive foundation. When I used this, I really loved my makeup and found that it looked just as good as my Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk foundation days and this one actually lasts longer and gives a bit more of a glow! Trying this definitely makes me want to check out more from Designer Brands because this foundation is exceptional! Let me know in the comments if you plan on picking this foundation up or already have it.

Disclaimer: I received this foundation from BeautyCrew to review for their website, which is not at all affiliated with my blog. It wasn't sent to me in my capacity of a blogger and there was no obligation to feature it on my blog or say nice things. As always, my opinions are my own.

  4. I think they've been advertising that it's a good dupe for NARS Sheer Glow which intrigues me! I love the finish of it - it looks so natural and lovely on your skin! I am curious about how it would wear on my oily skin though.

    1. I definitely think it is much glowier and a different feel to Sheer Glow, but they both a big on the glow. Sheer Glow more has a lit from within satin finish IMO though, while this is straight up dew and glow :)
