Essie Gel Couture Nail Polish Australia Rock the Runway Top Coat review swatches
I recently received a bottle of the new Essie Gel Couture nail polish, as well as the matching top coat, from Beauty Crew for review on their website. I have tons of Essie polishes so of course I was excited to try them out but after testing so many "gel-ish" polishes over the years and finding them only slightly better than most normal formulas, I wasn't expecting too much. I certainly wasn't expecting to find the best nail formula I have ever used!

So these Gel Couture range has been available overseas for quite a long time but it has finally graced our Aussie shores. They have released 25 shades here in Australia although, as I understand it, the full ranged stocked in America consists of 66 permanent shades and they release seasonal limited edition collections as well. Here is the new Australian range...

As for price, they retail in Australia for $16.95 each, which is the same price as the regular formula. This really surprised me because I thought the Gel Couture would be a little more expensive and I am so happy it isn't. It looks like the regular formula sells for $8.99 in the States, while the Gel Couture polishes are $11.49. For once, the Aussies win on price!

I received the shade "Rock the Runway" and I really was wowed from the first brush stroke. First of all, the packaging is gorgeous! Funny story - when I bought another shade at Priceline today, the guy at the count said "Wow, that's fancy!" because he hadn't seen them yet. The bottle is really chic while still being practical. The brush is also a fantastic wide bristled one that makes application so neat and easy in three quick strokes. I always prefer wide brushes and the Gel Couture one is particularly good.

The application was so smooth and easy and I almost never have a polish go on without a single bubble. They are the bane of my existence and I can usually avoid them with thin coats and a good formula but this one didn't even look like bubbling. It gave me the smoothest, shiniest finish I have ever seen outside of actual lamp set gel nails. The drying time was also really good.

Aside from the amazing finish that is as smooth and perfect as a mirror, the longevity is really where this polish amazed me. I went in expecting them to last a little longer than the regular formula but it really exceeded my expectations! Let's be honest, if you get 3+ days out of normal polish, you are doing really well. This one looked great on day 5 with only minor chip wear and I had even been rougher with my nails than normal. I had to do some cleaning at work unexpectedly (dishes, wiping down with cleaner, etc) and usually I would always wear gloves to protect my manicure but I didn't have any. I thought for sure I was going to ruin it on day 3 but it held up. A couple of days later, because there was some tip wear but still no actual chips, I basically wrote off the manicure and cleaned my apartment which always trashes my manicure but... still no chips! I took it off at the very end of day 5 and there was only wear to the edges - sorry I forgot to take a photo! You can also definitely extend the wear if you diligently reapply the top coat and wrap the tip every 2-3 days to reduce that tip wear.

Needless to say, I was totally amazed and it is seriously the best non-gel formula I think I have ever tried. I no joke need every other single shade and have made it my mission to gradually collect them. Lord help me and my wallet when Priceline next has them on sale because I plan on going crazy! I am the kind of person who always has polish on my nails - my students even remark when I'm not wearing polish because it is so rare! Because of this, I have tried just about every major formula there is and I am not exaggerating when I say this one is by far my new favourite. Part of me is actually a bit annoyed because my 200+ bottle collection has basically now been rendered obsolete!

Long story short, I absolutely love them! If you are a nail addict like me, you absolutely need to try them out immediately!

Disclaimer: I was sent this product by Beauty Review but it had nothing to do with my blog. The only condition was I review it on their site. As always, my opinions are my own.
