We have all heard of capsule wardrobes so I though it would be fun to create one for your nails! Of course, I have a metric ton of polishes (far more than I can ever use up if I am honest) but I am beginning to see the waste there, especially since I use the same gorgeous staple polishes over and over again. As attractive as a big polish collection is, you really don't need it. You can have beautiful, polished nails with these 5 gorgeous shades.
Pink Neutral: OPI Nail Lacquer in Tickle My France-y $19.95
I thought about putting in a light pastel pink but to be honest, the formulas are always tricky and lack opacity. This is a gorgeous alternative that gives you a beautiful pink neutral that is totally opaque in two thin coats. As a bonus, it is totally office appropriate and seems to look great on everyone. This is a new addition to my collection but it has overtaken my similar favourite Essie Lady Like in formula, quality and application.
Modern Neutral: L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Vernis A L'Huile in 664 Greige Amoureux $9.95
Everyone needs a greige neutral polish in their life! It looks so chic and modern while still being understated and very wearable. I have loved Essie's Chinchilly for ages but this one is cheaper and seems to last a bit longer so win-win. I think Chinchilly is slightly warmer but they are both gorgeous.
Deep Wine: L'Oreal Colour Riche Le Vernis A L'Huile in 556 Grenat Irreverent $9.95
Many nail polishes ranges have a similar super dark wine colour (think Essie Sole Mate and Sally Hansen Pat on the Black) but this one wins out in formula and affordability. I don't know why I love this shade so much, especially since I never wear black polish, but the deep wine shade is so gorgeous and sophisticated. I get complimented on my nails when I wear this shade and it is a great alternative to a traditional red polish that vamps things up a little.
Sexy Red: Smith & Cult Polish in Kundalini Hustle $28
When I thought about my favourite true red nail polish, this was a clear winner. I will admit it is pricey and annoyingly hard to find but you can find your nearest salon or boutique stockists here. That said, you can find a similar true red anywhere and I would recommend the OPI range (think "Big Apple Red") and there is even a red in the L'Oreal L'Huile range which looks beautiful. Either way, everyone needs a sexy red polish in their collection.
Interesting Accent Glitter: Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Nail Colour in 200 Strobe Light $6.95
Introducing one of the few holographic glitters you can find at the drugstore! I chose this one for this capsule wardrobe because it works really well with all the cool neutrals and even the wine shade that I picked. It was hard to pick just one glitter because I also love the Golden-I gold glitter in this same range, but you really can't go past holographic glitter to liven things up. Also, please excuse my poor peeling cuticles. Is anyone else over winter yet?
So there you have my 5 polish capsule wardrobe. If you have these 5 polishes in your life, you can have pretty nails all the time and enough variety to switch things up. You don't need a million polishes, just a few smart picks. There were a lot of favourite shades I couldn't fit in here but the whole point was to pick out those classic, gorgeous shades that you can wear year round. What is you favourite nail polish shade? Will you be picking any of these up to form your own capsule polish wardrobe? Le me know in the comments below. Also let me know if you would like me to create seasonal or themed polish capsule wardrobes in the future.
Disclaimer: I received the Smith & Cult polish as a PR sample but that does not affect my opinion. I paid for all of the other polishes myself.
