I have always loved the Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation and maintain it is one of the best foundations you can buy at any price point. Bourjois recently released a reformulated formula which, according to the PR, has anti-fatigue ingredients to fight dullness and is perhaps more luminous and glowy finish. All of that sounds fantastic to me and my dry skin so lets see how the new formula compares to the original.
This foundation is one of the few that doesn't cling to my dry patches and performs just as well as my all time favourite foundations that cost way more. The only downside for me has always been the colour range because it doesn't go light enough for me and is very yellow toned which means a lot of people can't use it. I really wish that they would expand the colour range because it is hands down one of the best foundations at the drugstore, if not period. I used to use the old formula until I was forced to admit that it was just too dark as I got better at makeup and colour matching. It broke my heart, let me tell you, because I'm forced to pay $60+ for something that performs nearly as well that actually matches. At least with the 51 Light Vanilla shade, it seems to be pretty close to the old one. If anything it is a little darker and pinker. Dammit, Bourjois! Go the other way. I need lighter shades! My original foundation bottle is a bit old so it isn't a perfect method of comparison of course.
When I first heard they were reformulating the Healthy Mix I was worried because it is rarely a good idea to fix something that isn't broke. I thought they might mess with the very things that made me love it but I am glad to be wrong. When I first applied it, it really seemed the same as the original. I would agree that it is a tiny bit dewier and more luminous but it has the amazing blendability and still sits nicely on the skin. In a side by side comparison where I applied the old formula to one side of my face and the new to the other, set with a tiny bit of RCMA No Colour Powder because I had to take a flash photograph on this miserable, cloudy day. I really did like them just as much and there wasn't any noticeable difference. It does make me wonder how it comparatively performs on oily skin, because I do know a few more normal-oily skin girls who liked the original.
As for longevity, it easily lasts all day on me and I can't fault it at all. Bear in mind that I had to mix it with a bit of Make Up For Ever Ultra HD Foundation to make it match my skin, but it didn't mess with the formula as far as I could tell.
In summary, this reformulated foundation is just as awesome as the original. It sits on the skin beautifully, provides a lasting light-medium coverage that is buildable to solid medium coverage and doesn't mess with any of the things I loved in the original formula. If anything it is better, at least for my dry skin, thanks to the new anti-fatigue and anti-dullness ingredients and the amped up luminosity. If you haven't ever tried this foundation and can find a colour match, you definitely should. It would definitely be my daily go to foundation if it was light enough for me and would save me the tons of money I spend on high end foundations to get something similar.
Disclaimer: I received this new reformulated product as a PR sample but there were no obligations to write a positive review. As always, my opinions are my own.

I absolutely love this foundation and I'm so happy you have done a comparison post. I've personally had a lot people ask me if I had tried the original. I'll be sure to get them to check out your post next time I'm asked.

I'm so glad you liked the comparison. I figured that since I already had the original formula that it might be helpful to some people. Thanks for reading :)

I'm really happy that you found the comparison useful. I am definitely with you because I have been loving the new one too. It really is an amazing drugstore foundation.

It's a great foundation for sure :) Have you tried one of the foundation adjuster drops with it to lighten it up? Or is the yellow tone the unfortunate issue? :( Sucks when you find a great, affordable foundation but it doesn't come in your shade :(

Yeah I have tried a couple of white mixers but they always affect the coverage. I have been liking the Make Up For Ever HD Foundation mixed in because I bought it in a shade that was too light. I swear I complain weekly that I can't use most foundations though because of the shade range :( Thanks for reading.

I've been waiting for someone to do this comparison! Thank you! Good to hear it's just as good as the original which I never had the chance to try
ReplyDeleteYay! I am so glad I was able to provide the comparison for you. It is definitely as good as the original which is really saying something because even the original is awesome.

I'm a huge fan of the Bourjois range and I love this foundation! Though I do agree they need to provide a bigger shade range.

Right!?!? I love it so much but it is such a hassle mixing it and lightening it every damn morning -.- Thanks for reading :)

It's great to read other people's opinion of the differences. I personally haven't noticed much difference between the two but I'm far from done with testing it.
ReplyDeleteYeah I didn't notice any obvious differences. It was only when I started looking for differences that I saw it was a teeny tiny bit dewier. If they had just said it was the same formula in an updated bottle I would have believed them. Thanks for reading :)

I've really liked this formula as well. I completely agree with you, I was concerned as to why they were reformulating an already really good foundation x
ReplyDeleteI am loving the new one, but i did find it quite darker and it oxidised after a few hours. Gorgeous post hun xx
ReplyDeleteI love both the bourjois healthy mix foundation as well as the serum version and i also have the original formula as well (2 shades of it actually). I love both the old and new formula but I agree for the most part they are both great with the new formula being slightly better.
