Declutter Series: Highlighters
I don't think my highlighter collection is too out of control, but it could still use a definite declutter though because I only really use a couple on a regular basis. Of course, I can't brag too much about keeping it reigned in because I have a lot more highlighters in palettes but that is a declutter for another day. Again, another big thanks to Maddie's Beauty Spot for inspiring me to embark on this rather ambitious declutter.

So between my powder, cream and liquid single highlighters I had nine which, like I said, isn't too bad.
Declutter Series: Highlighters

  • Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01
  • MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Moonstone
  • Benefit High Beam Liquid
  • Benefit Watt's Up Soft Focus Highlighter
  • Topshop Glow Stick in Play Up
  • Maybelline Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter in 100 Light/Iridescent
  • Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Pearlized in Butterfly Beach
Keeping
Declutter Series: Highlighters
  • Laura Mercier Matte Radiance Baked Powder in Highlight 01 - there is simply no way I am getting rid of this one! It is my absolute favourite.
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Moonstone - This is my go to intense champagne gold highlight that I reach for over the Laura Mercier highlighter for nights out or special occasion makeup.
  • Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Liquid in Moonstone - I've had this one for over a year so I was worried it might be expired but it seems to be perfectly fine. I particularly love to mix this with my foundations to make them dewier so it isn't going anywhere.
  • Benefit High Beam Liquid - I've had this for ages but it still seems absolutely fine. I will keep an eye on it for the first signs of going bad but for now it seems to be okay. I don't use it as much but I like to have a brighter, pinker option as apposed to the Moonstone liquid.
Throwing Away
Declutter Series: Highlighters
  • Benefit Watt's Up Soft Focus Highlighter - As much as it pains me, this one has to go in the bin. It is absolutely ancient, looks weird and doesn't sit quite right on the skin anymore. It was beautiful though.
Selling or Giving Away
Declutter Series: Highlighters

  • MAC Mineralise Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle - I have never really loved this as everyone else seems to. I would much rather use a Laura Mercier or Becca highlighter. The shade is really pretty but I find it doesn't sit as nicely on my skin.
  • Topshop Glow Stick in Play Up - This is quite a nice cream highlighter but I simply never use it so I'm moving it on. I usually reach for a liquid to mix with foundation or a powder simply because it is easier to dust on.
  • Maybelline Master Strobing Stick Illuminating Highlighter in 100 Light/Iridescent - Though the shade is pretty, this one was just pretty meh for me. It doesn't blend as well as I would like and ends up being subtler than I usually go for.
  • Colourpop Super Shock Cheek Pearlized in Butterfly Beach - This is a really nice rose gold highlighter but it is a way too warm for my pale skin.
So of the 9 single highlighters I had, I am keeping 4 and that is fine because I have only really used those in the last six months. It is also a great lesson in knowing what actually suits your skin type and tone because as much as I love the MAC Soft & Gentle and Colourpop Butterfly Beach, they really just don't work for me so it is better to move them along. I hope you are enjoying the declutter series so far. Let me know which part of my collection you would like me to declutter next.

  1. Love the choices for keeps! Out of them all, I'd love to try out the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector. It sounds so luxe!

    1. It is really beautiful! I actually used it today mixed with my Estee Lauder Double Wear to give it a lovely dewy finish.

    1. Yay! That is the point of this series. We all have stuff buried in our stash we could do without. If you like the look of the highlighter maybe stay tuned for my inevitable blog sale of all my decluttered stuff :)

  3. Love!! I need to declutter my Highlighter collection as well I think. I don't use it enough to justify how many I have, and I also bought a lot of cult shades which don't actually suit fair skin.

I would like to see blush or palettes next?

    1. I have done that so many times too! I bought the Laura Mercier Indescretion and a few other rose gold shades that were never going to work.

You must have read my mind because I already have a face palette declutter coming next week. My eye palette and blush are on the to-do list as well :)

  4. This is my job for this weekend! I have already put aside a heap of stuff to sell, so I will just take a few pics and hopefully find the time to blog about it! I have waaaaay to many highlighters.. and I don't even wear make up on a daily basis anymore..
