The only downside of amazing international holidays is those long haul flights! I haven't had the best experience with them in the past, getting horribly sick on my very first trip from Australia to London. It was not fun! To make things a little more bearable, I had a good think about all the beauty stuff I might need to make my holiday flights a less awful.
The first thing that should go in your carry on bag is stuff to help you freshen up! I always always carry hand santitiser and anti bacterial wet wipes. It isn't even that I'm a clean freak that needs to sanitise my hands non stop, but you never know when you will be caught in a pickle and unable to wash your hands. Plus, face cleansing wipes are an amazing idea too. I usually like to wipe the gross plane grime off my skin at the end of my flight and pop a little makeup on to help me feel more human. Though they aren't pictured, it is also a great idea to take your toothbrush, toothpaste and deodorant. Feminine wipes can also help you feel fresher when you can't shower for 24+ hours.
Moisturisation, mosisturisation, moisutrisation! Bascially, take some form of moisturiser for every part of you because nothing dehydrates you quite like an airplane cabin. The first thing on my carry on packing list was this gorgeous Mario Badescu Facial Spray with Aloe, Herbs and Rosewater ($9) to refresh the skin. Annoyingly, the smallest bottle is 118mL so I had to decant it into a smaller 100mL bottle I got from Daiso. I also packed a rich face moisturiser and a good hand cream that I can also use on any exposed skin. I forgot to include it in the photo, but a hair oil would be a good idea too. I'll be taking a little mini Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse Multi-Purpose Dry Oil ($26.99 for the 50mL) that I have been saving for my trip. You can use it on your hair and skin which makes it a great multi-tasker to save room in your bag.
I only take a couple of makeup products with me. I don't really like wearing makeup when I am traveling because it feels better to have clean skin and I like to be able to constantly reapply my moisturiser. That said, I still like to apply a couple of things just before the plane lands so I don't look as terrible getting off my long haul flight. I usually pop a tiny bit of concealer under my eyes because my already purple undereye area always looks worse with the exhaustion and dehydration of travelling. Also, a good pink blush and lip gloss can really help to bring colour back to your face. Finally, pop on some mascara and do your brows and you will look and feel a whole lot better.
Also, don't forget a clear bag to hold all your liquids, as per airline security regulations. Remember that all liquids have to be smaller than 100mL and that you can't take aerosols in your carry on too. Don't be that person that holds up the whole security line because you forgot to put things in a clear bag.
There you have my beauty essentials to take in your carry on for a slightly more bearable long haul flight. Do you have any other recommendations I might have missed or some beauty rituals you like to do for every flight? Let me know in the comments below.
