L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion Dewy Glow Foundation

Friday, 19 February 2016
I was really excited when this oh so popular L'Oreal Nude Magique Cushion was finally released in Australia. I was even more excited to find out that it came in a shade light enough for me as well, making this my first successful colour match in the entire L'Oreal foundation range. Cushion foundations started as a Korean beauty trend but after the release of the insanely expensive Lancôme Miracle Cushion Foundation ($90) the popularity in the Western blog sphere kind of exploded. While I haven't tried the Lancôme one, this L'Oreal cushion foundation is an excellent drugstore alternative at just $29.95 RRP for 14.6 grams. I have to say, I have been really impressed with this foundation and have been using it non-stop since it arrived.

First lets start with the packaging. It is a gorgeous little purple plastic case with a metallic lid. While it is quite obviously plastic, it doesn't feel cheap or flimsy which is great. It is also extremely practical with a securely fastening lid and sponge plate that lifts up to reveal the product which is kept airtight. It also features a sizeable mirror and a nice sponge applicator. While I obviously have concerns about the hygiene of cushion foundations in general, the packaging of this one is excellent so great job L'Oreal.
The product itself is kept in this large sponge which means you can have a compact liquid foundation without the risk of spilling. This is where my main hygiene concerns are. My recommendation would be to only buy this if you planning on using it up quickly (I wouldn't keep it for more than 3 months) and use a clean applicator when you apply it. I used my beauty blender which I clean after every single use to prevent bacteria growth. Hygiene concerns aside, this sponge dispenser really does work well. The formula is, as promised in the name, very light and dewy. For me it is the perfect everyday foundation because it provides a light to medium, slightly buildable dewy and natural coverage. It apparently has an SPF of 29 but considering the light coverage, there is no way you will apply enough product to get adequate sun protection so you should still be using a sunscreen.

As far as longevity goes, it lasted better than I thought it would being such a light, thin formula. On my dry skin it lasted most of the day with the help of a bit of powder. I would probably recommend it for dry to normal skin because I can't see it holding up well on oily skin. If you are willing to pair it with a fair amount of powder and maybe only use it in the cooler months, you may be okay though.

All in all, I love this foundation! I went in without any high expectations because I didn't think I'd even find a colour match but I have been using it just as much as my all time favourite Lancôme Tient Miracle Foundation. Will you be picking this new foundation up? It should be out in most L'Oreal Stockists by now but I do know that The Chemist Warehouse was one of the first to put it up in my area.

Stay Rosy.

  1. Great Review, I really want to give this foundation ago even though I am oily I still love a bit of a dewy finish and powder always comes in handy haha The packaging looks great and I love how small and easy it is to be able to take around with you if needed.

    1. Thanks so much Nicole :) You could definitely make it work with a mattifying primer and some powder. It is definitely great for travel too.

  3. I am so interested in this foundation, it sounds awesome! I do have similar concerns with bacteria and the like but so long as you're using clean tools it should be okay. Great review :)

    1. Thanks so much. The hygiene issue is definitely in the back of my mind when I use it but I always use a clean beauty blender so it should be okay.
