Summer Favourites: Makeup, Skincare, Nail Polish and Fragrance

Monday, 1 December 2014
While I will definitely say I prefer the cooler times of the year, there is a certain appeal to summer even if it is stinking hot where I live. With temperatures in excess of 35 degrees and humidity so bad it's like you have to swim through the air I definitely need to switch up my makeup, skincare and fragrance routines to suit the sunny weather. Here are some of the things I plan on getting lots of use out of this summer.
Benefit - The Perfect Summer Makeup
I rely so much on these Benefit products during summer and will often just wear these alone with a really light base. The Benefit They're Real Mascara ($38), as well as being the best lengthening, volumising, lifesaving mascara is also impossible to budge without makeup remover which makes it perfect for hot, humid weather.

I also tend to steer clear of too many powders during summer because I prefer to go as light as possible and I'm lucky enough to have fairly normal skin. I love Benefit High Beam ($45) as a summer highlighter because the liquid formula looks and feels so natural and light. For my cheeks I love using the absolutely stunning Dandelion ($51) over my Posie Tint. It creates a beautiful rosy flush and even after the weather has claimed the powder blush, the cheek stain beneath stays put and keeps me rosy all day. Plus it also makes for a beautiful lip tint that I usually top with a good lip balm.

Skincare Must Haves
The most important skincare item of summer is most definitely a good sunscreen! I am very pale but I also don't want to get skin cancer, permanently damage my skin or age prematurely so it is an absolute must! I always prefer a good SPF 30+ formula that is light weight and quick absorbing like the Nivea Sun Light Feel Every Day Sun Lotion ($17.99). It doesn't really matter which one you choose though as long as it is SPF 30+ , you reapply every 4 hours and wait at least 30 mins for it so soak in before going swimming. Seriously though, the only good tan is a fake tan people!

Of course I had to include a fake tanner in this list of summer favourites and I absolutely love the Bondi Sands Self Tanning Foam ($19.99) and their gradual tanner is great too. If you haven't tried Bondi Sands yet you need to give it a go this summer! Also, as you probably know fake tan will look patchy and fade quickly if you don't keep your skin moisturised. I love Vaseline Intensive Care Spray Moisturiser ($9.99) because it smells great, is non-greasy, light weight and fast absorbing. I used to love the regular Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion but this spray can just makes things so much easier and quicker.

To give myself a nice quick refresh and cool down my face I also love using my old favourite Sukin Hydrading Mist Toner ($9.99) throughout the day. While I have been using this as my daily toner for ages, you will find this one even in my handbag during summer. I have only recently discovered the Neutrogena Hydro Boost Water Gel ($24.99) and I love it so much. It is really lightweight and moisturising and will just be perfect to keep using every single day during summer.

Summer Nail Colours
Some of you may already know about my Essie nail polish addiction but if you don't this will definitely sell me out. My go to summer Essie polishes ($16.95) are Fiji (opaque baby pink), Topless & Barefoot (soft beige nude).  Mint Candy Apple (opaque mint green) and Bikini So Teeny (cornflower blue with subtle glitter). I also love Revlon Colorstay Gel Envy in Full House ($16.95) because it is bright and looks awesome against tanned skin!

Smells like Summer!
Because I am a totally girly girl all of my perfumes are very feminine but in summer I prefer a fruitier fragrance. Gucci by Gucci EDT ($59), with its top notes of guava and pear is by far my favourite summer perfume. It is fresh, fruity and light which is everything you want in a summer fragrance. I also love Burberry Brit EDT which has top notes of pear, lime and lemon grass which sounds like a weird combo but is absolutely beautiful.

So there are my summer favourites. I would love to know some of yours so please let me know in the comments below.

Stay Rosy.
