All About That Base!

Saturday, 8 November 2014
I often post about my favourite lip, eye and cheek products but I rarely focus exclusively on my favourite base products. Here are my go to, everyday base products that have never ever failed me.

Benefit POREfessional Primer $53
Right now I am working my way through an itty-bitty tester size but I will be ordering a couple more from the US website soon because I cannot be without this stuff. It is a silicone based primer that fills in pores and problem areas and leaves my face insanely smooth. It is by far my favourite primer though I often use the Face of Australia Face Base Primer or Clarins Beauty Flash Balm (for my horrible tired days) because they are a lot cheaper. You really cannot beat the POREfessional though.

Lancome Teint Miracle Bare Skin Foundation #005 $55
My love affair with this foundation cannot be put in to words. While I still try to use my many other foundations just to use them up and not waste them, this leaves all my others in the dust. It has a really natural luminous finish that last all day on my normal skin without going oily. I just love that it makes my skin look perfect but it still looks like my skin. If you have oily skin or live for full coverage foundations this one isn't for you but if you want a natural glowy makeup that evens up your complexion definitely give this one a go.

Benefit Erase Paste #1 "Fair" $47
I could not live without this stuff! I have some of the worst dark under eye circles I have every seen on a person (not exaggerating!) and my pale skin and postgraduate university career does not help matters at all. I have never used something that was so perfect at correcting the dark purple colouring under my eyes. It is seriously like magic. I also recommend you go in and try it at your local Benefit counter and don't mind the darker peachy colour because remember, it is a corrector not a concealer. I have the lightest skin tone and I am universally the lightest colour in every makeup range so I promise the fair colour will not be too dark.

Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer Light 2 "Vanilla" $35
I usually don't have any blemishes so any concealers I have a more for under eye concealing and colour correcting. I know a lot of people swear by the MAC Prolongwear Concealer as the best under eye concealer and I have both but I would say that this Nars one definitely trumps MAC. It looks so much more natural, is really pigmented and stays in place on my skin all day. Not to mention the fact that the Nars packaging is a billion times better. Who else absolutely hates that evil pump on the MAC Prolongwear concealer?

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette $76
This one is definitely a luxury product but boy is it worth the splurge and considering it used to be $95 not too long ago I would even say that the price is pretty decent now. I love using the middle shade "Incandescent Light" to set my undereye concealer and highlight my face. The "Dim Light" is a beautiful all over setting powder and because I'm so crazy pale the "Radiant Light" makes for a great subtle bronzer that warms up my complexion. This palette just lights up my face and somehow minimizes my pores. It truly is beautiful.

Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder #001 "Transparent" $12.95
Because I am so pale it is hard for me to find a powder that doesn't darken my base or simply look weird which is why I love this translucent powder. It sets my foundation beautifully without looking powdery. I much prefer a dewy finish so this is perfect for making my foundation last while keeping the beautiful finish of my Lancome foundation. For the price, you just cannot get any better.

There are my absolute favourite base products. Do you agree, disagree or have some recommendations of you own. Please let my know in the comments, I'd love to hear from you.

Stay Rosy.

  1. I like using the Rimmel pressed powder and the porefessional too! I'm currently in love with the collection(previously called collection 2000) lasting perfection ultimate wear concealer. It's so long lasting and provides great coverage! Bourjois healthy mix foundation is my fave as well!
